Mechanical Engineering: Materials

A National Science Foundation supported organization that provides access to advanced research instrumentation and research facilities in the U.S.

The National Science Foundation established the Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers (MRSEC) program to provide "support for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary materials research and education of the highest quality while addressing fundamental problems in science and engineering." The MRSEC site functions as an information clearing house, with links to research centers, educational programs, and news and information on current research and new developments.

A searchable database of material properties includes thermoplastic and thermoset polymers such as ABS, nylon, polycarbonate, polyester, polyethylene and polypropylene; metals such as aluminum, cobalt, copper, lead, magnesium, nickel, steel, superalloys, titanium and zinc alloys; ceramics; plus semiconductors, fibers, and other engineering materials.

A portal to material property data from many of the National Institute of Standards and Technology databases. Searchable by keywords, properties, and substance names.
